MDBox is the most promising and demanding feature in the latest cPanel and it is the most appealing feature. There is a huge benefit of converting from Maildir to MDBox.

Uses of Maildir and MDBox:

The maildir format uses flat files, which cause systems with large mail archives to exhaust their inode resources quickly.

The mdbox format stores multiple messages in a file and uses a simpler indexing scheme. This format requires fewer files, reduces inode usage significantly, and decreases disk space usage.

Main advantage of MDBox over maildir are listed below;

Reduces inode usage and disk activity

Great for accounts with large amounts of emails

[1] Login to WHM
[2] Go to Email Option
[3] Click on “Mailbox conversion”
[4] Select the format to convert mailboxes
[5] click the button “Next”

[6] Select the checkboxes for the accounts to convert and click on “Next”
[7] Click the button “Convert” to convert the mailboxes for the selected accounts
