How to add MX Entry of the domain using WHM ?

Web host manager is web-based control panel administrating the Linux server, it is more easy way to using the Linux server rather than using the more complex commands in the server, with all the options to create, manage cPanel accounts and set certain global setting that apply to all accounts.

SiliconHouse provides Linux Hosting which has Web Host Manager where you can get the option as “Edit MX Entry”. This feature allows you to set MX entry for a particular domain. This interface allows you to configure the entry for each destination mail server.

Mail Exchanger records are generally determine where your mails under the domain is being processed. How ever you can manage MX record of the domain by using zone editor option in cPanel. Main advatange in WHM is that you can manage multiple accounts MX records and Email routings.

You can also follow the below procedure to set MX record for multiple domains,

  1. Login to the WHM by using https://servername:2087
  2. Click “DNS Functions” option
  3. Under DNS Functions option, you can select “Edit MX Entry”
  4. Select the domain name which you want to set MX record
  5. You can select Email Routing for the domain as below

i) Local Mail Exchanger – You can select this settings inorder to access the mail for the domain from same server. The server always accepts mail for this domain. The system will deliver mail to the local mailbox
ii) Remote Mail Exchanger – You can select this settings inorder to access the mails from remote server. The server will not accept mail for this domain.
iii) Backup Mail Exchanger – The server functions as a backup mail exchanger. The system will hold mail for this domain until a lower number mail exchanger becomes available.

  1. After setting the email routing, you can set MX records for the domain under “MX Entries” option.
  2. Then click “Save”

Once you have set MX record properly. Then mails for the domain will work from that corresponding server.
