How to Upload files in Linux Dedicated Server ?

Dedicated Server allows you to upload the files via FTP and cPanel . Using File manager option in the cPanel and Using FILEZILLA software for FTP , we can able to upload the files in Linux Dedicated Server without any limit restriction.

Procedure

Uploading files in the cPanel of the domain 

In Dedicated server to upload the files in the domain please follow the below procedure,

1. Uploading files in the server is possible in 2 ways,

  • Files Uploading via FTP
  • Files Uploading via cPanel

Files Uploading via FTP

To upload files in domain name under your domain in Dedicated Server , you must have an ftp software such as FILEZILLA installed in your System.

Please use the below procedure to upload files using Filezilla. You can Download ftp software Filezilla from filezilla.org

Procedure:

Downlaod and Install Filezilla FTP Client
Click on File >> Site Manager
Click on New Site option
Supply the following details
Host : ftp.yourdomain.com or server IP
port : 21
server type : FTPES – FTP over explicit TLS/ SSL
{
Note: If you are using latest version of fiezilla,
Protocol: FTP-File Transfer Protocol
Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS.
}
Logon Type : Normal
User : your ftp user name
password : your ftp password

Click on connect

[ If any prompt to accept the certificate appears, please accept it as the server used open ssl ]

Now you should be able to view the local system in left side and server in the right side

You can now start uploading the contents in your public_html directory

Files Uploading via cPanel

To upload files in domain name under your domain in Dedicated Server, you have to access the FILE MANAGER of your cPanel interface.

Please use the below procedure to upload the files via File Manager.

1. Access your control panel at http://www.yourdomain.com.com/cpanel [ Example : www.crmcell.com/cpanel ] (or) You can login via WHM by using the option ,

Home » Account Information » List Accounts

Click the cPanel Logo of the domain name to login to the cPanel .

2. Supply the user name & password.
3. To access the FILE MANAGER, click on the File Manager icon on the main screen of your cPanel interface.
4. Click on the words Upload File(s).
5. Click on the box marked Choose.
6. Select a file to upload from the pop-up window by clicking on it.
7. Click on the open button and the window will disappear.
8. Repeat steps 5 through 7 to prepare more files to be uploaded.
9. When the list is full or you have no more files to upload, click on Upload. You will be brought back to the FILE MANAGER in the directory you have uploaded the files to.

I am getting Failed to retrieve directory listing in FTP [ Filezilla ]

Error :

Failed to retrieve directory listing

Solution :

1. Go to Filezilla.
2. Click on File >> Site Manager.
3. Click on the tab Transfer settings.
4. Choose the Transfer mode as active.
5. Click on connect.
 
Even if you face the same error,try the above procedure with the passive mode.

I am getting the error ECONNREFUSED – Connection refused by server in FTP

Error :

Status: Connection attempt failed with “ECONNREFUSED – Connection refused by server”.
Error: Could not connect to server

Solution :

Kindly use the port number as 21

 

I am getting ECONNABORTED – Connection aborted in FTP

Error :

Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
Response: 421 Timeout – try typing a little faster next time
Error: GnuTLS error -9: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
Status: Server did not properly shut down TLS connection
Error: Could not read from socket: ECONNABORTED – Connection aborted

Solution :

Kindly Choose server type : FTPES – FTP over explicit TLS/ SSL .

Note: If you are using latest version , use
{
Protocol: FTP-File Transfer Protocol
Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS.
}

This is due to open SSL is enabled in the server for security reasons.

I am getting Connection Time out in FTP

Error :

“Connection Time out ”

Solution :

  1. Your ip might be blocked in the firewall. In such case update the static/system ip by visiting http://getmyip.co.in/ in the ticket to check whether your ip is blocked in the firewall.
  2. If you haven’t change the name servers of the domainname but you are using ftp.domainname in host the above error will occur.Kindly use server ip address instead of ftp.domainname in host and check it out.
  3. If you are connecting the ftp via quick connect, you will receive the above error.  Kindly refer the below procedure and proceed further.
  4.  After disabling the firewall if you still receive this error in a particular system , then uninstall and reinstall the filezilla software and check it out.

I am getting 421 Can’t change directory in FTP [ Filezilla ]

Error :

Response: 421 Can’t change directory to /var/ftp/
Error: Could not connect to server

 

Solution :

Please choose Logon type : Normal

 

I am getting 530 Login authentication failed in FTP [ Filezilla ]

Error :

Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Error: Critical error
Error: Could not connect to server

Solution :

Please recheck your username and password and make sure that you are using valid login details.

You can also change the password using below procedure,

1. Login to your WHM
2. Click on Account Functions link
3. Click on Password Modification icon
4. Supply the new password (Copy the password which you given for future use)
5. Select the account for which you want to change the password
6. Click on Change button

The message the password has been changed will be displayed.

 

 

I am getting 421 Clear Text Session Error in FTP [ Filezilla ]

Error :

421 Clear Text Session

 

Solution :

This is because you are trying to connect as plain text instead of FTPES. Please choose FTPES in ftp mode.

Kindly refer the below Procedure,

Go to filezilla

Click on File >> Site Manager
Click on New Site option
Supply the following details
Host : ftp.yourdomain.com or server IP
port : 21
server type : FTPES – FTP over explicit TLS/ SSL

Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS.
