How do I Block/Unblock IP Address in cPanel in Linux Web Hosting?
Silicon House Servers are powered by free cPanel and WHM. In Linux Reseller Hosting cpanel, you can able to Block/Unblock IP Address via IP Blocker feature. You can block an IP address by using .htaccess rule, but cPanel also has a feature to help create these rules. It allows you to block/unblock IP address or range of IP addresses to prevent them to access your site. You can also enter a fully qualified domain name and the IP Deny Manager will attempt to resolve it to an IP address for you. By using this feature, you can avoid to posting malicious content from unauthorized person. It will be very helpful to maintain a high degree of security.
Kindly refer the below procedure:
To Block an IP:
1] Login to your cPanel
2] Click “IP Blocker” under Security section
3] Enter an IP address or Domain name in “Add an IP or Range” field
You can block certain IP address or range of IP addresses by using below formats
Single IP Address : X.X.X.X
Range : X.X.X.X – Y.Y.Y.Y
Implied Range : X.X.X.X-Y
CIDR Format : X.X.X.X/Y
Implies : X.*.*.*
4] Click “Add” field, Once you filled all the above fields and then you will receive a message as below
“Users from the IP address(es) X.X.X.X will not able to access your website”
Now the IP address has been blocked. From the IP address no one can access your website. If you no longer wish to deny access from a specific IP address, you can unblock an IP address or domain name that you have blocked previously by using IP blocker.
To Unblock an IP:
1] Login to your cPanel
2] Click “IP Blocker” under Security section
3] You can see the Blocked IP address under “Currently-Blocked IP Addresses”
4] Click Delete option which IP address you have to remove
5] It will be ask “Are you certain that you wish to delete the IP address “X.X.X.X”?”
6] Click “Remove IP” and then you will receive a message as below
“The following IP address is now able to access your site: X.X.X.X”
By using the above procedure, you can able to Block/Unblock IP address in cPanel itself.
Note : If the IP was blocked by something other than the IP Blocker, the block will need to be removed some other way.
