How to set email send limits in your linux dedicated server ?

 

Fully Managed Linux Dedicated Server can be managed by cPanel/WHM with root access. Thru root access you will get the privileges to access all the options and features of the server. WHM allows to you to set maximum number of outgoing email send limits per hour for the whole server or individual domains. This allows to limit spam/unsolicited emails and better regulate bandwidth used by the domains in the server.

Settings outgoing mails send limit for whole server

Using this option, outgoing email send limits will be applied for all the domains in the server globally.

To set the default hourly email send limits for all of your server’s domains, perform the following steps:

1) Login to WHM of the dedicated server
2) Go to “Tweak settings” option under “Server configuration”
3) Look for the option “Max hourly emails per domain” under “Mail” section

This value defines the default limit for all of the domains on the server, except for domains for which you manually set a different limit.

Settings outgoing mails sent limit per domain basis

Using this option, one particular domain can be customized to send number of mails per hour. You have only few accounts needed more email send limits, this option will be useful.

To limit the number of emails per hour that an account’s domains can send, perform the following steps:

If its an existing account,

1) Login to WHM of the dedicated server
2) Go to “Modify an account” under “Account functions”
3) Enter the value in “Hourly Email by Domain Relayed”
4) Click Save

For a new account,

While creating package, Hourly Email by Domain Relayed limit can be set in the package which will apply the limit for the specific account.

1) Login to WHM of the dedicated server
2) Click on “Add a Package” under Packages
3) Enter the value in “Maximum Hourly Email by Domain Relayed”
4) Click Add
5) After the package is created, “Create a New account” under “Account functions”
6) Choose the package that you have created and create account
7) The email send limits which you set in the package will be applied for the domain
